The hidden difference

You may think your finances are fine until you see the actual model.

What their finances actually looks like

When the actual projection shows they run out of money during retirement.

Cash savings

10% had no cash savings; 21% had under £1,000. [1]

Retirement readiness

77% are not expected to reach a moderate standard of retirement. [2]

  1. More people have bank accounts but one in ten have no cash savings — Financial Conduct Authority, 16 May 2025. Financial Lives May 2024 survey; UK adults.
  2. Retirement Living Standards update shows the nation is not saving enough — Pensions UK, 3 June 2026. 23% of the working population is expected to reach a Moderate retirement living standard.

Questula is designed to reveal problems early on and actions to resolve them.

Tackling complexity

Personal finance is a complex interaction of elements.

Elements such as Income, Taxes, Mortgages, Investments and Pensions are all interconnected. Your outcome depends on all of them.

Increasing pension contributions may reduce tax but also reduce accessible savings.

Repaying a mortgage may reduce future costs but also reduce investment capital.

Retiring earlier changes earnings, pension growth, tax, spending and how long a portfolio must last.

Questula models these interactions within one connected financial projection.

Time matters

Small financial decisions can compound for decades.

Problems revealed twenty years before retirement are likely fixable. The same problems discovered two years before retirement become much more difficult to resolve.

The earlier a problem is visible, the more routes remain available.

Retirement timing

Test whether the planned date remains resilient when circumstances or assumptions change.

Access and tax

See the trade-off between pensions, accessible savings, debt and future tax within the same plan.

Uncertainty

Explore inflation, spending and investment scenarios instead of relying on one smooth forecast.

Why Questula

Built with modelling expertise

The Questula engine wasn’t assembled from generic calculators or AI prompts. It has been designed from the ground up by Dr Amish Poonyth, whose career has focused on using complex system modelling and scenario analysis to support long-term decisions under uncertainty.

Questula also comes from personal experience. Despite a successful analytical career, Amish realised he had many of the same confusing questions that many people face. Thus, Questula was created to bridge that gap by bringing every major aspect of personal finance together into a single financial model.

Ongoing value

Your Financial Sat Nav

Questula is not a one-off forecast. It continuously measures, recalibrates and improves your plan as your financial life evolves.

A living financial plan

Recalibrated every month

Your latest financial position is measured against the plan, showing whether you are still on track and what actions—if any—could improve your long-term outcome.

Current position

Where you stand in terms of Assets, liabilities, Taxes and Cashflows.

Expected trajectory

Where current information and assumptions suggest you're likely heading.

Change since last month

What moved materially and which inputs or assumptions contributed.

Remedial actions

How to fix the issues with the greatest potential impact.

Questions before you start

A clear model starts with clear expectations.

I already have a pension calculator.
A pension calculator normally models one element. Questula is designed to model the interactions between income, tax, spending, savings, investments, property and retirement.
My finances are not complicated enough.
Complexity often comes from interactions over time, not from the number of accounts. A few decisions can affect tax, access to money and the timing of future goals in different ways.
I am not close to retirement.
Earlier visibility generally leaves more time to test assumptions and more possible routes to investigate. Questula can also model career changes, property, family support and other goals before retirement.
I do not know what assumptions to use.
That is one purpose of the guided calibration. We establish a reasonable starting set, make each important assumption visible and test alternatives.
Is this financial advice?
No. Questula provides modelling, projections, educational information and decision support. It does not provide regulated personal financial, investment or tax advice, or a personal recommendation to transact in a specific product.
What happens after the first session?
Your calibrated model becomes the starting point for monthly trajectory analysis. The report highlights progress, material changes, risks, assumptions to review and focused actions or areas to investigate.
What data do I need?
Recent values for income, household spending, cash, pensions, investments, mortgage and other debts, property, intended retirement timing and major future expenses. Estimates can be refined later.
Can my circumstances be updated?
Yes. Income, spending, assets, debts, objectives and assumptions can be updated as circumstances change, allowing the trajectory to be recalculated.
Are the projections guaranteed?
No. Projections depend on the information and assumptions used, and actual investment, inflation, tax and life outcomes are uncertain. Scenarios help make that uncertainty visible; they cannot remove it.
